Clarence Raymond Adams papers, 1916-1965.

Consists of correspondence; speeches; lecture notes; publications, including manuscripts, typescripts, drafts, notes, and reprints; and exhibition catalogs dating from 1916 to 1965, that document the career of mathematician Clarence Raymond Adams. The papers document Adams's involvement in the mathematics departments of Brown University and Harvard University, his studies at the University of Rome (1922-1923) and the University of Gottingen (1923); his publications; his participation in the American Mathematical Society; and his speeches. The Correspondence received by C.R. Adams series includes personal and professional letters. Adams typed his reponses on the verso of many incoming letters. The Lecture Notes series includes notes taken by Adams during his studies at Brown University (1916-1920), Harvard University (1920-1922), the University of Rome and the University of Gottingen. The Articles series contains Adams's masters thesis titled Hyperbolic Functions and Their Applications; theses written for Harvard; drafts of articles; research notes; related correspondence; and what is probably the draft of an untitled book. The Mathematics Dept. series documents Adams's administration of the department, syllabi and assignments for classses that he taught, departmental reports on undergraduate research, and lecture notes created by others. The Miscellaneous Papers series contains undated equations, theorems, and problem definitions that could not be assigned to another series in the collection. Adams's research notes and publication about Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford, are in the collection.
